Day Trip to the Strawberry Farm
Hi Family!
What a fun day we had today. We went to a local farm and picked some strawberries fresh from the field! As a small business owner, I am happy every time I can support a small business. This is one of the reasons I truly love that we are partnering with local boutiques and specialty shops in the area. Supporting each other and working together toward success makes me happy. The other thing that makes me ridiculously happy is fresh produce. I think I may need therapy, but vegetable and fruit markets make me so, so happy. One of the things I love most about what I do is working with fresh produce. It doesn’t get any fresher than going to a local farm, picking your own strawberries, taking them home and whipping up a small batch of no sugar added strawberry jelly for your kiddo.
My kids help me so much. This season of life has been a little busier than normal. The kids are all out of the house, working full time. They have families of their own and most are going to school full time as well. It’s hard to get together on a consistent basis and in this little season the majority of the “help mom get things done” is falling on my oldest. She is a freelance web designer and very organized and methodical. I am a dinosaur who loves to make jelly and has 5 creative projects going on at all times. We make a good team even if she hates my driving. She is chief executive photojournalist, videographer and list maker. She is also living a low carb lifestyle and as such I keep her in stock with no sugar added jelly as often as she needs it. She also didn’t even blink when I said let’s go film at a farm! It was a beautiful day but windy. We weren’t able to film because the wind kept wiping out the sound, but it was too fun not to share with you all. The sun, the company, and the simple joy of picking my own fruit. It was an amazing day and a welcome break from the normal grind.
I encourage you this summer to take some field trips into the community you live in. Find a local farm and explore what they have to offer. Hold a meeting at a locally run coffee shop. Buy your birthday cake from your neighbor that has a small sweets business. Give a one-of-a-kind gift for Mother’s Day that you bought from the boutique down the street. Find one new local business a month and support them with reviews or purchases or word of mouth to your friends. Ask them what made them start a business and make a friend. You won’t be sorry that you did. Life is short y’all, take the time to be a good neighbor.
Until next time,
